Quinta de la Rosa portvin fremstilles hvert år på traditionel vis, trådt i granit lagares fra druer dyrket på Quinta de la Rosa.Hvert år tilbageholder de en lille mængde af deres bedste porte LBV-kvalitet og derover.Det er fra disse lagre, de blander deres Tonel 12. Denne blanding sker med jævne mellemrum for at sikre, at lagrene altid er friske.I mange år, før 1988, hvor de begyndte at sælge portvin under mærket La Rosa, plejede familien Bergqvist at gå ned til 'Tonel 12' (en stor 25 rørs tønde opbevaret i hytten under huset) og fyldt karaffen fuld aflækker ti år gammel tawny direkte fra tønden.Den dag i dag henviser de stadig til Tonel 12, i stedet for ti år gammel tawny, og besluttede at beholde navnet på etiketten
