Parlamentet Sandeman blev grundlagt i London i 1790 af George Sandeman, en ung skotte fra Perth, der besluttede at investere 300 pund lånt af sin far i at etablere en virksomhed, der markedsfører vine fra Porto (Portugal) og Jerez (Spanien).
Altid en pioner, Sandeman var det første firma til at mærke sit navn på en tønde med et varmt jern. I 1805 blev GSC (George Sandeman Co. ) var en kvalitetsgaranti for den vin, den solgte. Det var også et af de første virksomheder, der mærkede og reklamerede for sine vine, som allerede i begyndelsen af det nittende århundrede blev eksporteret til flere lande i Europa, Nord- og Sydamerika, Afrika og Asien.
