Quinta de la Rosa-portvin fremstilles hvert år på den traditionelle måde, trampet i granitlagre af druer dyrket på Quinta de la Rosa. Hvert år tilbageholder de en lille mængde af deres bedste havne af LBV-kvalitet og derover. Det er fra disse bestanddele de blander deres Tonel 12. Denne blanding sker regelmæssigt for at sikre, at bestanden altid er frisk. I mange år, før 1988, da de begyndte at sælge port under La Rosa-mærket, plejede Bergqvist-familien at gå ned til "Tonel 12" (en stor 25-rørs tønde, der blev opbevaret i lodgen under huset) og fylde deres decanter med lækker ti år gammel tawny direkte fra tønden. Til denne dag henviser de stadig til Tonel 12, i stedet for ti år gammel tawny, og besluttede at holde navnet på etiketten
