Great-grandson, great-grandson and grandson of wine producers in the Dão region, João Silva e Sousa began working in wineries and in his grandfather's vineyards at the age of 15. He was co-founder of two companies where he created brands such as Castello d'Alba, Lua Cheia em Vinhas Velhas, Andreza, Maria Papoila, among others.
