The Fiuza Family has vineyards and produces wine for more than one century in two of their estates located in the Tejo Region.
Mr. Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiuza was the 11th generation of the Marquis de Fronteira Family . He was the father of the present owners of the company and was the person responsible for the creation and development of the Fiuza Brand.
The company started operating in the beginning of the 20th century when Mr. Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiuza and his uncle begun to produce wine on the family estates.
Mr. Joaquim Mascarenhas Fiuza had two passions: Winemaking and Sailing, and during is long life (he lived 102 years) he was able to develop both in an enthusiastic way.
Regarding his glorious sailing career, as a sportsman, he was one of the most awarded Portuguese athletes. As a Star Class sailor, he participate in 3 Olympic Games (Berlim in 1936, London in 1948, Helsinki in 1952), 4 World Cups and 6 European Cups.
The most important achievements were the bronze medal in 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games, two gold medals in the European Cups of 1957 and 1958 and 4th place in 1952 World Cup. He was also 9 times National Champion. (See full list of Prizes here)
