I was born in Coimbra and was baptized a month later at Souropires. I grew up in Coimbra but my summers were spent in Souropires. My parents are both from Beira Alta (Sabugal and Souropires) and they had five children, I being the oldest and the only one with a taste for Souropires. They were always French daughters after Souuropires, the maternal grandmother, in a family house that was rebuilt in the mid-19th century, as an invasion. My grandchildren are at least the eighth generation in the same household. I studied at the School of Agricultural Regents (Coimbra and Santarém) and Medicine (Coimbra and Lisbon). For two and a half years I lived and practiced medicine in Norway. It was in Scandinavia that I woke up to the world of wines, mainly with Swedish friends.
When, by inheritance, the first vines came, and the power of my father, my brother João, we thought it would be sad and there would be nothing to do with viticulture with affection and then deliver as grapes to the cooperative. So, in 1994, I produced my first red. A wine produced from grapes from vines planted recently and from old vines that existed in the Mortories. From here came a claret wine, fresh, not very easy to drink, but still in good shape today. The brand was then "Rogenda".
Today I continue to look for viticulture and grapes and to make wine with a minimum of intervention.
