<p><span>Quinta dos Avidagos has a wide range of wines that goes from Avidagos White, Red and Rosé, Quinta dos Avidagos Tinto Reserva, Quinta do Além Tanha Tinto and Quinta dos Avidagos Grande Reserva Tinto. The indigenous varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, for the reds and Gouveio, Rabigato and Viosinho for white, allow them to achieve all the personality and character of the terroirs of the Douro. Combining cutting-edge winemaking with the traditional foot treading in granite mills (lagares), the aim is to produce wines with excellent value money with recognized quality worldwide, international profile and the nature of their homeland. The excellence of the wine culture, the use of traditional varieties, as well as the structural conditions of the region and the human project, has constituted the secret of success. The Douro is actually unique, singular. The wines deserve attention from critics regarding the quality and sales, both domestically and in export markets, have increased. <p></p><p>The history of the family Vasques de Carvalho has roots as strong as a vine and is confused with the history of the Douro. Its origins date back to the mid-nineteenth century and the family wine company, which has always transformed its production into generous wine, selling part to the exporting houses and aging another part, adding value.</p>

<p></p><p>The story of Dow’s is unusual amongst all the great Port houses. It began in 1798 when Bruno da Silva, a Portuguese merchant from Oporto, made a journey which was the opposite to that of the first British merchants. The Port shipping business was continued by Bruno’s son, John da Silva who in 1862 brought into partnership Frederick William Cosens. With the continuing expansion of the firm, Edward da Silva and Frederick Cosens were joined by George Acheson Warre, whose well known family had been involved in the Port trade since its earliest years. In 1877, Silva &amp; Cosens merged with another leading Port company, Dow &amp; Co.</p> <p>Although smaller than Silva &amp; Cosens, Dow &amp; Co had become a very highly regarded Port producer with a particularly fine reputation for its Vintage Ports and when the two companies merged, it was decided to adopt DOW’S as the brand name</p> <p>For over two centuries the name of DOW has been associated with the finest Port from the vineyards of the Upper Douro Valley. Throughout the 20th Century and into the 21st, the Symington family has built on the legacy of the preceding Silva and Dow families.</p> <p>Dow’s attractive and distinctive drier finish is the recognisable hallmark of the wines from this great Port house.</p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p>

<p></p><p>Casal Garcia was born in 1939, a year in which the vintage was particularly good. Returning by train from the grape harvest in the Douro, the French oenologist Euge Hisse decided to interrupt his journey to Oporto after passing the vines of the Quinta da Aveleda, in Penafiel. The name came about by itself, since the wine was produced from one of the vines of Aveleda: that of Casal Garcia</p>
