Castro was born of a Passion ... The passion of the family to create unique, unique wines, with differentiation in the market.
Castro is a typical family business and its origin is due to Joaquim Marinho de Azevedo who acquired the first farm in 1967 - Quinta de Rabuços. This farm, located in the parish of Vermoim, already had more than 283 years of history. Joaquim Marinho de Azevedo with the purchase of this farm was able to take the first steps in the production of grapes and wine and, joining the useful to the pleasant, also continued with animal husbandry since the family was already connected to the branch of the meat.
In 1976 Gaspar Marinho took over and with his natural gift for business and rapid growth in the market he acquired Quinta da Devesa known as Cavalões, the current headquarters of the Cellar and the company. At the time the fifth had 300 heads of cattle and already 225 kites of wine.
In 1989 with the help of his youngest son Gaspar Filipe Pereira Marinho, the company's current manager, they decided to dedicate themselves exclusively to the production of grapes and wines in the estates, starting from then on the history of Castro Vinhos de Portugal.
The constant growth and the demands of the market led Filipe Marinho, with his passion for the world of oenology and agriculture, to create a new project for a winery able to meet all the conditions favorable to wine production. This new cellar has all the characteristics of hygiene and qualification for wine preparation, bringing together and transforming its grapes into a unique and distinct wine in the market.
The wine cellar today has more than 3500 thousand square meters, and the evidence hall is almost 1000 square meters. Our wine production can reach more than 900 tons of grapes and 800 thousand liters of wine. It owns about 100 hectares of own production, being more than 55 hectares only of the family and the rest leased.
Supporting perfectly the national market and having great capacities to supply a good part of its international expectations, Castro excels by the quality and innovation of its wines being a company that tries to differentiate itself in the world of the green wines.
