Founded in 1962, the Adega Cooperativa de Barcelos initially brought together 51 winegrowers, with the main objective of encouraging the production and marketing of Vinho Verde in Barcelos and neighboring municipalities, integrated in the Cávado sub-region.

Its founders, men who believed in the superior quality of the wines produced in the region, with an extraordinary desire to achieve an important joint force in the production and commercialization of Vinhos Verdes that were increasingly produced with greater quality.

The number of members increased, reaching more than 600 winegrowers representing an area of ​​over 510ha.
