A jury of 100 members gathered in Dijon and tasted 564 sparkling wines from 22 countries. Since its inception Effervescent du Monde® aims to promote and award sparkling wines from all over the world. This competition, held annually in France, has “Diversity, Quality and Diligence” as its motto. Cartuxa Sparkling Reserve 2012 is a varietal wine produced from the Arinto white grape variety. The base wine fermented in French oak barrels at controlled temperature with a further six months on lees. The second fermentation was produced according to the classic (“champenois”) method, followed by a five-year ageing on lees at the Cartuxa cellars. With a gold, straw colour it shows a fine persistent bubble. The aroma is reminiscent of aniseed, dry grass and beeswax, with notes of toasted almonds. Fresh and persistent in the palate, ending with great complexity and character
