Fortified wine is a wine to which a distilled beverage (usually brandy) was added. The fortified wine is distinguished from other distilled beverages made from wine, they are produced only by means of distillation, while it is merely a wine which the distillate was added. Various types of fortified wine have been developed throughout history, including Port wine, sherry, Madeira wine, Marsala wine, Commandaria, and Vermouth.
